Who Are the Friends?
The Friends of the Library are community members who donate time and money to support such activities as literacy programs, special library events, professional development of library staff, and programs for special populations. Our major fund raising projects are the semi-annual Book Sales. Funds received through this non-profit 501c3 organization by the Friends are from annual dues, memorial gifts, donations to the Friends’ Endowment Fund or special projects, These funds are all tax deductible. The funds are used solely for the library needs beyond those provided by the city of Chattanooga. With the Friends' continuing volunteer efforts and financial support, the library has been able to offer:
Summer Reading Program: an annual summer program for children, teens and adults promoting the importance of reading throughout the summer months.
Teen Stack: Teens finally have a place of their own at the downtown branch! There are computers, special literature, video access, and projects designed for and by the Teen Board. Funds enable purchases of books on CD, videos, DVDs, music recordings, books about Tennessee and other local interests, and children's books for our M.O.R.E. Department.
