Who Are the Friends?
The Friends of the Library donate time and money to support such activities as literacy programs, special library events, professional development of library staff, and programs for special populations. Our major fundraising projects are the semi-annual Book Sales. Funds received by the Friends from annual dues, memorial gifts, donations to the Friends’ Endowment Fund or special projects are all tax deductible, and used solely for the library needs beyond those provided by the city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. With the Friends' continuing volunteer and financial support, the library has been able to offer:
Let's Talk About It: a reading and discussion series for adults.
Summer Reading Program: an annual summer program for children, teens and adults promoting the importance of reading throughout the summer months.
Flick’s Café: join your friends at the Downtown branch on Tuesday evening for a film and discussion, plus dessert.
Teen Stack: Teens finally have a place of their own at the Downtown branch! There are computers, special literature, video access, and projects designed for and by the Teen Board. And purchases of books on CD, videos, DVD's, music recordings, books about Tennessee and other local interests, and children's books for our M.O.R.E. Department.
