The Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library are community members who donate time and money to support activities such as literacy programs, special library events, professional development of library staff, and programs for special populations.
The majority of our fundraising dollars comes from the semi-annual book sale. Other funds received are from annual dues, memorial gifts, donations to the Friends’ Endowment Fund or special projects.
The funds are used solely for library needs that go beyond what is provided by the City of Chattanooga. Through the Friends' continuing volunteer efforts and financial support, the library has been able to offer summer programs for children, teens, and adults.
Summer Reading Program
An annual summer program for children, teens and
adults promoting the importance of reading throughout the summer
Teens finally have a place of their own at the downtown branch! There are computers, special literature, video access, and projects designed for and by the Teen Board. Funds enable purchases of books on CD, videos, DVDs, music recordings, books about Tennessee and other local interests, and children's books for our M.O.R.E. Department.
