Chattanooga Memories Project Announced
Chattanooga Public Library working with local start-up to create a searchable memory database of Gig City
"Chattanooga's history will no longer be tucked away in old archives filled with dusty books or trapped as fleeting memories in people's minds," the Chattanooga Times Free Press article opens. The article calls the Chattanooga Memory Project "an ambitious and revolutionary undertaking." Inspired by the Singapore Memory Project, the video, audio, or text uploaded will be searchable by date or location. For example, users could search for memories around the time of the 2015 Chattanooga Shootings, or find memories from their own neighborhood.

Grand Opening of Sky Lib at the
Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport

Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library officially launched SkyLib at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.
Mayor Andy Berke and other dignitaries were there to celebrate the first of its kind, an Honor Book Store in an airport.
"Friends of the Library organizations around the world are well known for their used book sales, big and small. The Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library are going even bigger than most with a used book sale in a twenty-four-hour location—their local airport. The Friends are opening Sky Lib, a bookstore at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport that will operate on the honor system, with no staff to watch the books or collect money. Customers will pay the three to five-dollar book cost either into a secured cash box, with a credit card on the Friends’ website, or by picking up an envelope to mail in a check. All proceeds from the bookstore will go to support the Chattanooga Public Library."
